When requesting a translation job, please 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁, a text written by a native…
It has happened to receive a document – to translate to Portuguese – which had been written in English by a Spanish employee (or vice-versa) of that company/client.
I agree that a person who works with a product do know everything about it. But may not know all about writing, especially into another language…
Most of the time this will lead to misinterpretation of the text, to several email exchanges between the final translator and the client asking “sorry, what do you mean with this sentence?”, “I think there’s an error here“, etc.
This means that the translator to whom was requested a translation or localization job will have twice the work and take twice the time. Therefore, it may cost more to the client.
Write and share your ideas in your mother tongue. Then ask us, professional translators, to convey that message into our mother tongue.
It’s simpler, clearer and easier to everyone. 😉
